Description

Avenanthramide A is a polyphenol found in oats, which has been shown to have chemotherapeutic effects against cancer and neurodegenerative disorders. Avenanthramide A inhibits the production of inflammatory compounds by regulating the activity of protein kinase C (PKC) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). This compound also suppresses the activation of NF-κB, a transcription factor that is responsible for the expression of proinflammatory cytokines. Avenanthramide A has been shown to inhibit creatine kinase and human neurokinin-1 receptor, which are enzymes involved in the proliferation of cells that are implicated in cancer. The anti-cancer properties of avenanthramide A have been shown to be effective against leukemia, colon cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, lung cancer, and skin cancer.
