2-Amino-5-iodo-3-methylbenzenecarboxylic acid is an anthranilic compound that has insecticidal activity. It is a structural analog of the natural product plutellin and its derivatives, which are potent insecticides. 2-Amino-5-iodo-3-methylbenzenecarboxylic acid was found to have high efficacy against plutella xylostella and xylostella larvae. This compound also showed strong inhibitory effects on the growth of these two types of insects in bioassays. 2-Amino-5-iodo-3-methylbenzenecarboxylic acid inhibits protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes, which leads to cell death by apoptosis.
