Description :
E-64 is a research tool that is used to study protein interactions. It has been shown to inhibit ion channels, such as the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor and the voltage-gated calcium channel. E-64 binds to receptors in the cell membrane, blocking ion channels and altering intracellular signaling pathways. E-64 has been shown to inhibit nitric oxide synthase, which may account for its anti-inflammatory properties. E-64 also inhibits an enzyme called protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B), which is involved in insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
