Epimedin B1 is a small molecule that binds to the receptor for angiotensin II and activates it. Epimedin B1 binds to the AT1 receptor and thereby inhibits the activity of angiotensin II. This inhibition leads to a decrease in blood pressure, which may be due to an increase in nitric oxide, vasodilation and inhibition of renin release. Epimedin B1 has been shown to be a high-affinity ligand for the AT1 receptor and has been used as research tools for studying various aspects of cell biology and pharmacology. In addition, Epimedin B1 can also inhibit the activity of ion channels that are involved in neurotransmission. This makes it useful as an inhibitor in cell biology studies.
