Escin Iib is a phosphoric acid solution that is extracted from the seed of Aesculus hippocastanum, a tree commonly known as the horse-chestnut. It contains escin and other saponins. Escin is a complex mixture of saponins which has been shown to inhibit the activity of lipase and some other enzymes. The extraction process uses an organic solvent, acetonitrile, which is then evaporated to give a solid form. The extraction process can be carried out using an ultrasonic extractor to increase the yield. The pH value of Escin Iib is acidic, with a range between 3 and 4.
