(3,5-Difluorophenylacetyl)-Ala-Phg-OtBu is a secretase inhibitor that inhibits the enzyme that cleaves amyloid precursor protein (APP) to release beta-amyloid. It has been shown to prevent the formation of plaques in the brain and may be used to treat Alzheimer's disease. (3,5-Difluorophenylacetyl)-Ala-Phg-OtBu has also been shown to inhibit the production of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα), which is involved in inflammation and carcinogenesis. The drug has been shown to reduce myocardial infarct size by preventing cardiac cell death and reducing inflammation following a heart attack. It is also active against multiple types of cancer cells, including carcinoma cell lines and multidrug resistant cells.
