Description :Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that suppresses the production of stomach acid by blocking the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme. It is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Rabeprazole has been shown to be more effective than omeprazole in reducing gastric acid secretion in two-way crossover studies. Rabeprazole also has been shown to inhibit the growth of antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria. In addition, rabeprazole binds to metal ions like iron and copper, which may affect its pharmacokinetics and efficacy. This drug is currently being investigated as an analytical method for determination of proton pump inhibitors in human serum and urine samples by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS).
