Tetrahydroisoquinoline-6-carboxylic acid is an endophytic fungus that has been shown to have receptor activity against infectious diseases. It is a potent inhibitor of casein and membrane systems, in addition to the mitochondrial cytochrome C oxidase. Tetrahydroisoquinoline-6-carboxylic acid has been shown to be effective in experimental infections caused by Aspergillus fumigatus and Bacillus subtilis. Tetrahydroisoquinoline-6-carboxylic acid was found to inhibit the replication of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and HIV type 1 (HIV-1), in addition to inhibiting influenza A virus (IAV). Tetrahydroisoquinoline-6-carboxylic acid also inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species by mitochondria, which may lead to reduced blood pressure levels.
