Ticagrelor is a prodrug that requires conversion to its active form, which is N-(3-hydroxytricyclo[3.3.1.1]dec-1-yl)glycyl-L-prolinamide, before it can be used as a platelet inhibitor and antiplatelet agent for the prevention of thrombotic events such as heart attack and stroke. It has been shown to have an excellent stability profile and high purity when produced by HPLC or synthesized using the latest methodology under GMP conditions.
