Description

Hydrocodone bitartrate is a narcotic analgesic that is used for the relief of moderate to moderately severe pain. It binds to specific opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord, which reduces the perception of pain. Hydrocodone bitartrate has been shown to have a long-term safety profile with no evidence of tolerance or physical dependence with chronic use. It also has a low incidence of side effects with oral administration.
Hydrocodone bitartrate is an acidic compound that is conjugated with glucuronic acid and eliminated in urine as its metabolites, hydrocodone and 6-beta-hydroxycodeinone. These conjugates are not active, but they may contribute to hydrocodone's long-term efficacy by increasing its half-life. The terminal half life of hydrocodone is 9 hours.
