It also has the ability to form a conformational equilibrium between two different tautomers, which can be distinguished by their nmr spectra. 2-(3-Thienyl)ethanamine is an enzyme inhibitor that blocks the conversion of polyphosphoric acid into polyphosphate by inhibiting the enzyme polyphosphate kinase. The synthesis of this compound involves reacting 3-phenylacetonitrile with ethylamine and triethyloxonium chloride. This synthetic process produces substituted amines and alkylating agents as side products.
