7-(Diethylamino)-3-phenylcoumarin is a compound that has been used as a fluorescent probe for the study of liquid crystals and their mesomorphic phases. It is also used to determine the crystal structures of other compounds. The emission spectrum of 7-(Diethylamino)-3-phenylcoumarin is sensitive to crystallographic orientation and changes from yellow in plane-polarized light to red when rotating it out of the plane.
