Richenoic acid is a triterpenoid that has been shown to have a number of functions in plants. This compound has been shown to be an intermediate in the conversion of cabraleone, which is a triterpenoid found in fruits, into shoreic acid. Richenoic acid has also been shown to have biological activity and may be a natural product that is used by plants as an insecticide. The elemental analysis of richenoic acid showed the presence of hydrogen, carbon, oxygen and nitrogen with an atomic percentage of C: 58.4%, H: 10.3%, O: 29.1% and N: 2.2%. The elemental analysis also showed that richenoic acid contains no sulfur or phosphorus atoms.
