NPS-2143 is a small molecule that enhances the mitochondrial membrane potential by regulating intracellular calcium levels. It also prevents the loss of energy metabolism and pathogenic mechanisms of cells. NPS-2143 is a competitive antagonist to the calcium-sensing receptor, which is responsible for sensing extracellular and cytosolic calcium levels. This drug has been shown to inhibit leukocyte recruitment and inflammation in the lungs, as well as inhibiting platelet aggregation. NPS-2143 binds to basic proteins and peptide hormones, such as angiotensin II, erythropoietin, follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), insulin, prolactin, growth hormone (GH), parathyroid hormone (PTH), thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), somatostatin, vasopressin, calcitonin, glucagon, and secretin.
