Methyl 9(E)-Hexadecenoate is a fatty acid with a butyric acid head and a long chain of 16 carbon atoms. It is an antioxidant that has been shown to have anti-cancer properties by inhibiting the MAPK signal, which regulates cell growth. Methyl 9(E)-Hexadecenoate also binds to fatty acids in the cell membrane, preventing them from binding to histidine and other amino acids, which may inhibit the transport of these molecules across the cell membrane. Methyl 9(E)-Hexadecenoate also inhibits cancer cells by binding to pheromones and preventing them from binding to their receptor sites on the surface of cells. Methyl 9(E)-Hexadecenoate is used as an antioxidant in biodiesel production and has been shown to inhibit lipid peroxidation in rat liver mitochondria when used at high concentrations.
