Potassium laurate is a sodium carbonate salt of potassium and oleic acid. It is used as a pesticide for the control of insects, mites, and weeds on crops. Potassium laurate has been shown to have potent antitumor activity in animal models and has been shown to be an effective insecticide against the fungus Angelicae Dahuricae. The mechanism of this pesticide's action is not fully understood. It is thought that it may inhibit complex enzymes or bind to hydroxyl groups on cell membranes.
