3-Chloro-2-methylquinoline is an organic compound that contains a quinoline ring and a chloro group. It is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis, for example to produce 2-chloroquinoline and carbazole. 3-Chloro-2-methylquinoline can be made by reacting an enamine with 2 moles of cyclohexanone in the presence of chloroform or by reacting acyl chloride with quinaldine in the presence of chloroform. The n-oxide is also formed when it is heated with water or acidified hydrochloric acid.
