Description

2-[1-(2-Thienyl)ethylidene]malononitrile (TEM) is a methylene compound that is used as an analytical reagent. It has chromene and crystalline properties and is active in the methylene group. TEM is used as a catalyst for organic reactions and as a solvent in analytical chemistry. TEM was synthesized by reacting malononitrile with dimethoxymethane in the presence of metal nitrates. X-ray crystallography studies revealed that TEM has two pyrazole rings fused to each other, forming a cyclic structure. The chemical formula for TEM is C4H6N4O2S.
