Description

2,2',3,3',4,4',5-Heptachloro-1,1'-biphenyl (PCB) is a polychlorinated biphenyl that has been shown to affect the function of ryanodine receptors. This chemical can lead to excitotoxicity by causing overexcitation of neurons and has been shown to impair cognition in animals. PCBs have also been shown to sensitize the brain's response to excitatory postsynaptic potentials and attenuate synaptic transmission by binding with ryanodine receptors.
