Description :
Methyl 4-iodo-3-methoxybenzoate (MIOMB) is a trimethylbenzene derivative that is a natural product. It has been found in the marine sponge, Stypandra sp., and the fungus, Dianellidin sp. Methyl 4-iodo-3-methoxybenzoate has antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Clostridium perfringens, as well as Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium. MIOMB also exhibits inhibitory effects on the growth of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). MIOMB is an amide with two functional groups: a benzene ring and an amide group. The macrocyclic structure of this molecule gives it stability against oxidation and degradation by enzymes.
