8-Methoxy-4-oxo-1,4-dihydro-quinoline-3-carboxylic acid is an antibacterial agent that is used to treat resistant bacteria. It has been shown to have a broad spectrum of activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. The mechanism of action of 8-Methoxy-4-oxo-1,4-dihydro-quinoline 3 carboxylic acid includes the disruption of bacterial cell membrane function. This drug also has a stabilizing effect on the emulsion in water and is soluble in both water and organic solvents. 8MEMQC also has a disulfonate group that provides surface activity for water insoluble compounds.
