2-[(4,6-Dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl)thio]benzoic acid is a thiol analog of 2,3-diaminopropionic acid that is used as a reagent in organic synthesis. It has been shown to be an inhibitor of the enzyme histone deacetylase (HDAC), which plays a key role in the regulation of gene expression and cellular differentiation. The chemical isomers have been identified by ionization mass spectrometry, and the pathways and mechanisms for their formation have been elucidated by microcalorimetric studies. The positional isomers are formed from electrospray ionization mass spectrometry and semiempirical quantum mechanical calculations.
