It has been shown to increase the permeability of the cell membrane to potassium ions and chloride ions, which results in hyperpolarization. 28:0 Coenzyme A is also a ligand for the receptor known as Ligand-gated ion channel, and it can activate this receptor. 28:0 Coenzyme A has been shown to inhibit the activity of both acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase, two enzymes which are responsible for breaking down acetylcholine in the body.
