• Description: 1-Palmitoyl-2-cholesterylcarbonoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (PC) is a synthetic lipid molecule that is used in the diagnosis of tuberculosis. The PC molecule is an analog to mycolic acid, which is a fatty acid found on the surface of the tuberculosis bacterium. PC has been shown to activate antigen presenting cells and induce an immune response against mycobacteria, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex. It also has antiinflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to activate neutrophils, macrophages, and lymphocytes. This lipid can be used as a skin care product for treating skin conditions such as acne or eczema.
