Description

Insulin is a hormone that is produced by beta cells in the pancreas and regulates blood sugar levels. It is used for the treatment of diabetes mellitus, a disease in which the body does not produce enough insulin or cannot use insulin properly. Insulin works by lowering the level of glucose (sugar) in the blood, thereby regulating its supply to various parts of the body. Insulin has been shown to be effective at reducing postprandial blood glucose concentrations. This drug also lowers blood glucose concentrations by stimulating glucose uptake into muscle and adipose tissue. Insulin is also used to treat type 1 diabetes, gestational diabetes, and other conditions where low insulin production results in high blood sugar levels.
