1-(Benzyloxy)-4-ethenylbenzene is a monomer that can be used in the synthesis of polymers. It is a segmental analog of styrene and can be used in the synthesis of antibacterial agents. The compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of gram-negative bacteria, such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, but not gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus. 1-(Benzyloxy)-4-ethenylbenzene also has been shown to react with triazole derivatives to form antibiotics that are active against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
