Description

Tixocortol is a corticosteroid that has been used for the treatment of bowel disease, skin cancer, and allergic symptoms. Tixocortol is a pivalate ester of hydrocortisone. This type of steroid is stable in the presence of air and light. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and may be used to treat inflammatory bowel disease or allergic symptoms. Tixocortol is not active against bacteria but can inhibit their growth by competing with other antibiotics for binding to the cell wall. Tixocortol has been shown to bind to glucocorticoid receptors, which are involved in regulating inflammation and immune responses.
