Ethyl 3-oxopiperidine-1-carboxylate is an analogue of benzylpiperidine that is used as a cardioaccelerator. It acts as an alkylating agent by binding to the amino group of proteins and DNA, leading to the formation of crosslinks between proteins and DNA, which inhibits their function. It has been shown to have agonist activity on dopamine receptors in the brain and nervous system. It has also been shown to be a potent dopamine agonist in animal studies.
