Annonacin is an acetogenin that has been shown to have mitochondrial membrane potential-depleting properties. It also inhibits the proliferation of cancer cells in vitro, as well as the growth of xenograft tumor. Annonacin has a matrix effect on skin cancer cells, which prevents the accumulation of excessive amounts of lipids and protein. This compound may be effective in treating cancer due to its ability to inhibit energy metabolism and induce neuronal death.
