9-Deoxygoniopypyrone is a natural product that exhibits antimycobacterial activity. It is a zirconium complex that has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis. 9-Deoxygoniopypyrone binds to the DNA of susceptible cells and inhibits its replication. The compound also blocks the synthesis of RNA and protein, which are necessary for cell division. 9-Deoxygoniopypyrone has been found to have selective toxicity against leukemia cells in mice and human leukemia cells in culture. It also has anti-cancer effects as it inhibits the proliferation of cancer cells by blocking cell division and inducing apoptosis.
