Description

Tebipenem is a natural compound that belongs to the class of beta-lactam antibiotics. It has an antimicrobial spectrum that includes Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Tebipenem is active against penicillin-resistant bacteria and some strains of Enterococcus faecium. Tebipenem pivoxil is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed in vivo to tebipenem, its active form. This drug binds to the penicillin-binding protein and inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by inhibiting cross-linkage of peptidoglycan chains during cell division. Tebipenem pivoxil is used for the treatment of infections in pediatric patients due to its lower toxicity profile.

Tebipenem pivoxil may cause interactions with other drugs and contains excipient substances such as sodium hydroxide, hydrochloric acid, and water for injection.
