• Description: rac-Harzianolide is an analog of Harzianolide, a natural product isolated from the fungus Trichoderma sp. In human urine, rac-Harzianolide has been detected after oral administration of chitosan-bound rac-Harzianolide. This compound induces apoptosis in cancer cells and inhibits tumor growth in Chinese hamsters. Rac-Harzianolide acts as a kinase inhibitor, blocking the activity of the protein kinases that are essential for cancer cell proliferation and survival. It is considered a promising candidate for the development of novel anticancer agents.
