Azido-PEG6-acid is a dendrimer that has been shown to have immunosuppressive properties. It targets the HLA-DR antigen on the surface of macrophages and inhibits their proliferation. Azido-PEG6-acid also has anti-tumor efficacy in glioblastoma and brain tumors, as well as cardiac toxicity. The translation of this molecule into clinical trials is being explored as a strategy to treat neuroinflammatory diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. Azido-PEG6 acid has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of macrophages by targeting the HLA-DR antigen on their surface. This inhibition of macrophage proliferation may be due to its ability to target other cell types, including brain tumor cells and cardiac cells.
