Astragaloside is a natural phenolic compound found in the roots of Astragalus membranaceus. The structure of astragaloside consists of two rings, a benzene ring and a furan ring, connected by an ether bond. This compound has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects by modulating lymphocyte function and glutamate release. It also has antioxidant properties that are mediated through ferulic acid. Astragalosides have been shown to be effective in treating ischaemic conditions such as myocardial infarction and stroke in animal models.
