This compound has been shown to have antiplatelet activity and is used for the prevention of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation who cannot tolerate warfarin or those who need a higher dose of warfarin than can be achieved with standard doses. 5''''-Methyl-apixaban also inhibits platelet aggregation, leading to decreased blood clot formation. 5''''-Methyl-apixaban has been shown to have a number of metabolites including apixaban, which is formed through oxidation; apixanone, which is formed through hydrolysis; and apixanol, which is formed through conjugation with glucuronic acid. Apixanone has been shown to have more potent antiplatelet activity
