Strontium ferrite is a compound that consists of strontium and iron. It is the ferrimagnetic form of strontium ferrite. It has been shown to have a thermal expansion coefficient that is about twice that of pure strontium, which may be due to the presence of hydroxyl ions in the crystal lattice. Strontium ferrite has been laser ablated and identified by electron microscopy as a multi-walled carbon nanotube with calcium stearate coating. It also has high magnetic properties and can be used as a magnetic particle for drug delivery or medical applications. The activation energies for the oxidation and reduction reactions are 0.7 eV and 0.3 eV respectively, making it an excellent candidate for use in fuel cells or batteries where low operating temperatures are required.
