Description

(1,5-Cyclooctadiene)diiodoplatinum(II) is a compound used in the treatment of cancer. It has been shown to bind to DNA and inhibit the synthesis of proteins involved in cell division and growth. The compound has also been found to be toxic to the liver, kidneys, and skin. (1,5-Cyclooctadiene)diiodoplatinum(II) is a crystalline solid with a malonic acid structure. This compound emits light when it is combined with an organic molecule that absorbs light energy. The crystal structure is antiperiplanar with a dihedral angle of about 120° between the two cyclooctadienide rings.
