Description

Diethyl (3-thienyl)malonate is a metal salt that forms dimers in the presence of a base. It can be extracted with solvents, and has been shown to form dimers in the presence of oxygen or light. Diethyl (3-thienyl)malonate has been used as a coupling agent for the preparation of other organic compounds. In addition, it has been used as an intermediate to synthesize dimers including ethane and propane, which are thermodynamically stable. Diethyl (3-thienyl)malonate is an oxidative dimerization agent that is homolytic and can form intramolecular bonds between two molecules. This compound is widely used in industry as a trackable chemical, because it can be detected by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
