Description :
1-Acetyl-3-bromo-4-piperidinone is a reagent for the synthesis of substituted piperidines. It can be prepared by reacting acetyl bromide with 1,4-dioxane in the presence of hydrochloric acid (HCl) and heat. The product is purified by recrystallization from water and ethyl acetate or by fractional distillation. The hydrochlorides are obtained by reaction with hydrochloric acid and then recrystallized from water. The hydrobromide is obtained by reaction with hydrobromic acid and then recrystallized from water. 1-Acetyl-3-bromo-4-piperidinone has been used as an intermediate to synthesize substituted piperidines, such as 4-[2-(1H-imidazolium)]ethanesulfonic acid methyl ester, which have potential applications in pharmaceutical
