2,5-Dichloroamylamine hydrochloride (2,5-DCA) is a chemical that can be used as a precursor to other chemicals. It is a colorless gas with a chloroform-like odor. 2,5-DCA reacts with hydrochloric acid to form hydrogen chloride and acetyl chloride. It also reacts with thionyl chloride to form dichloroethane and acetyl chloride. 2,5-DCA is soluble in water, ether and ethyl alcohol.
2,5-DCA has been shown to react with triethylamine to produce acetaldehyde and pyrrolidines. This reaction also produces alkenylamines in the presence of catalytic amounts of hydrogen chloride or sodium hydroxide.
