(S)-(-)-4-tert-Butyloxazolidine-2,5-dione is an organic compound that is used as a polymerization initiator. It can be used to prepare polymers of l-tert-leucine and other monomers. The compound undergoes oxidative homopolymerization and copolymerization reactions with various monomers such as styrene, vinyl chloride, divinylbenzene, butadiene, acrylonitrile, etc. (S)-(-)-4-tert-Butyloxazolidine-2,5-dione has been shown to act as a ligand in organometallic reactions. It is also used in the synthesis of polypeptides by activating the lysine side chain hydroxyl group. The molecular weight of the compound has been determined by x-ray crystallography to be 268.3 g/mol. X-ray diffraction studies have revealed that
