2-Deoxy-2-fluoro-D-mannose is known for its antiviral properties as a sugar analog and glycosylation inhibitor. It works by inhibiting the glycosylation of viral envelope proteins, which can prevent viral replication and reduce viral infectivity. Studies have shown that 2-deoxy-2-fluoro-D-mannose can inhibit the replication of various viruses, including influenza A virus, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and hepatitis C virus (HCV).
