5-Deoxy-L-arabinose phenylhydrazone is a phenylhydrazone that can be synthesized from 5-deoxy-L-arabinose and hydrazine. It has a chiral conformation, which is due to the configuration of the carbon atoms on the ring. The hydroxyl group on the second carbon atom of the ring is oriented in two different positions, which causes two different configurations. 5-Deoxy-L-arabinose phenylhydrazone has been shown to have antiinflammatory effects, as well as antimicrobial properties. This compound can also be used as a precursor for tetrahydrobiopterin, which is an essential cofactor in many biochemical reactions that are involved in cell metabolism and redox balance.
