Description

2-Formylphenyl 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-b-D-glucopyranoside is a natural product of the gentisyl family. It is synthesized from benzyl alcohol and acetic anhydride. This compound has been shown to have anticancer properties in animal studies. The acetyl groups are thought to be responsible for the cytotoxicity of this compound. Salireposide is one such analog that has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis and induce apoptosis in cancer cells.
