• Description: 2,4-Methanoglutamic acid is an amino acid that has been shown to have neuroprotective effects in animal models of excitotoxicity. It has been shown to reduce neuronal death at low concentrations and inhibit the uptake of glutamate into the brain cells. 2,4-Methanoglutamic acid binds to calcium ions and prevents the release of calcium from intracellular stores, thereby protecting against neuronal death. This compound has also been shown to be toxic in mammalian cell culture, but it is not yet known if this toxicity will occur in humans.
