It binds to the viral DNA at a site that is not affected by other antiviral agents, preventing the viral DNA from being copied into RNA. 4MPBG also induces coagulation and cell expression in human cells and has been shown to inhibit the production of amyloid beta (Aβ) in Alzheimer's disease. This drug is not active against organisms such as bacteria, yeast, or fungi. The drug was originally synthesized as a potential pharmaceutical for cancer treatment, but it did not exhibit any cytotoxic effects on cancer cells.
