Description

1,2,3,4,6-Penta-O-galloyl-D-glucopyranose (PGG) is a naturally occurring compound that has been shown to be involved in the transport of glucose across cell membranes. It increases the blood glucose levels in animals and is an inhibitor of phosphatase. PGG has also been shown to have potential therapeutic properties for diabetes. Studies have shown that PGG inhibits the enzymes involved in glycogen synthesis and glycogenolysis, which are important for maintaining normal blood glucose levels. This inhibition may be due to its affinity for receptor binding sites or its ability to act as a competitive inhibitor of these enzymes.
