7,8-Dimethoxy-1-oxo-1H-isothiochromene-3-carboxylic acid is an antimitotic agent that inhibits the mitosis of cancer cells by binding to microtubules. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of lung cancer cells in animals and is also active against trypanosoma, an organism that causes African sleeping sickness. 7,8-Dimethoxy-1-oxo-1H-isothiochromene-3-carboxylic acid has also been shown to be effective against parasites such as trypanosomes and helminths that cause diseases such as African sleeping sickness and intestinal worms.
