Description

Secoisolariciresinol diglucoside is a glucoside that is found in the human diet, especially in flaxseed. Secoisolariciresinol diglucoside has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on mammary tumorigenesis and mammary tumor growth. It also inhibits the proliferation of breast cancer cells in vitro. The mechanism of action for secoisolariciresinol diglucoside is not fully understood but may be due to its ability to reduce cell densities, induce apoptosis, or prevent the formation of new blood vessels from existing ones. This compound also has antioxidant properties and can inhibit the production of α-linolenic acid (ALA), which has been associated with increased risk for breast cancer.
