4,4'-Diethylbiphenyl is a non-polar organic compound that has been used in the production of industrial chemicals and pharmaceuticals. The selectivity of 4,4'-diethylbiphenyl can be modulated by molecular modeling to produce desired products. It also has been shown to be more selective than other catalysts for the synthesis of ethyl groups and isomers. 4,4'-Diethylbiphenyl has been shown to form complexes with palladium metal, which are used in organic synthesis as well as catalytic hydrogenation. This chemical can be recycled up to six times before it becomes too acidic and needs to be disposed of.
